And this week, we have two real markers that it’s starting to take shape:

Thanks for reading! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

We officially added our first featured member artist and our first social catalyst to the CDA roster.

Not as “future plans.” Not as a concept. As actual humans we get to support, elevate, and book.

Why this matters (a quick nod to the origin)

CDA started because dance has been treated like it’s “extra”—a hobby, a side quest, a cute talent—when we know it’s a real skill with real value. And too many dancers have had to choose between:

moving somewhere expensive,

accepting underpaid/unclear gigs,

or letting the performer part of them go quiet.

We’re building infrastructure where dancers are—starting in Virginia and expanding outward—so adult dancers can get access to opportunities, community, paid performance pathways, and business literacy without needing a miracle or a relocation.

Social Catalysts is our first offer because it’s a direct bridge between dancers and real-world demand: events, DJs, venues, small brands—people who want their rooms to feel alive.

What we’re working on this upcoming week

Here’s what’s on deck right now—this is the “building in public” part.

1) Introducing our first Featured Member Artist

This week we’re spotlighting [FEATURED ARTIST NAME]—a member artist we’re proud to put in front of the Collective.

What to expect:

a short intro to who they are + their style

what they’re building right now

how to support/follow them

(and yes) how this connects to future gigs and opportunities through CDA

This is the beginning of us doing what we said we would do: make it easier for dancers to be seen, booked, and valued—without gatekeeping.

2) Welcoming our first Social Catalyst to the roster

We also added [SOCIAL CATALYST NAME] to the Social Catalysts roster—our first official “proof of concept” person for this offer.

This matters because Social Catalysts isn’t just content, vibes, or views. It’s a real lane:

dancers as high-energy event talent,

booked in spaces that want atmosphere, movement, and memorability,

paid in a way that respects the skill.

This week we’re tightening the clarity around what a Social Catalyst is (and isn’t), so it’s easy for both dancers and clients to understand.

3) Content + outreach systems (so we can scale without chaos)

We’re continuing to build the behind-the-scenes systems that make this sustainable:

outreach messaging + follow-up flow

content calendar polish for the first week of June

portfolio assets + positioning language that doesn’t feel “salesy,” just clear

roster organization so we’re ready when client interest spikes

4) Recruiting & community momentum

We’re staying focused on the people who have been quietly raising their hands—the dancers who’ve been waiting for something like this, and the community pockets that are curious (not cold).

If you’re a dancer reading this and you’re thinking, “Wait… this is exactly what I’ve been missing,” just know: you’re not late. You’re early.

The win we’re tracking right now

The goal isn’t to look big overnight.

The goal is to get real people to understand the mission and say:

“I want in. I want to be part of this. I want to move again—and I want it to count.”

And week by week, that’s starting to happen.

Ride the come up with us

If any part of this sounds like your story—training you didn’t get to fully use, a performer identity you refuse to bury, a desire for real opportunities where you are—this is your invitation to stay close while we build.

Subscribe to stay in the loop for:

featured artist spotlights

Social Catalysts updates + opportunities

auditions, gigs, and new experiments as we launch them

honest founder updates (the messy middle included)

If you have questions, hit reply. Seriously. We’re building this with you—not in a vacuum.

— The CDA Team

P.S. Want to be considered as a future featured member artist or social catalyst?

Join_CDA

Thanks for reading! CDA’s start as a choreography piece refined in her head—transferred loosely onto paper, pushed through a couple of website versions, and shaped with AI support—until it could finally “hit the stage” with a real team. Now a decade out after college, her dance degree felt completely worthless: stuck in a 9–5 she doesn’t love, covering bills, balancing motherhood to a toddler, and missing any real way to connect with other adult dancers. She points to the bigger issue—dance being treated as an “artsy” or “feminine” hobby, not a real career—pushing dancers to chase expensive cities and sketchy living situations instead of sustainable infrastructure where they are.

Last year, that frustration finally snapped into focus. Hollis started building CDA humbly, from the ground up, without investors or corporate backing. “We’re like you—millennials and Gen Z underdogs,” she says, rejecting gatekeeping. Creatives pay low, intentional fees to gain entry and are then exposed to funded gigs, peer rehearsals (beyond fun classes), chances to perform or choreograph on live stages, network, and travel as the platform grows.

CDA’s first active offer, Social Catalysts, is how this vision touches the ground: adult dancers booked as high‑energy event talent for DJs, weddings, venues, and small brands that actually want their rooms to feel alive—not just nicely decorated.

“If you crushed a class that was filmed but got no booking despite views, or feel exploited by how little we’re paid because no one ever taught us the marketing, sales, and business side—we see you,” Hollis emphasizes.

CDA is trying to bridge underdogs to real businesses, proving dance’s value in a world that has long categorized it as ‘less than.’ The Virginia Social Catalysts launch is just the first test: “We’re not going down without a fight.” ✊

Week 1 Wins & Insights: What We’re Seeing Already

Week one of having a real team in motion felt less like a flashy launch and more like turning the lights on in a room that was always waiting for us. We don’t have a full outreach report yet, but here’s what we do know:

Adult dancers in small places are quietly raising their hands.
People have started replying to our DMs and emails with, “I’ve been looking for something like this,” following CDA on social, and clicking through to read more about Social Catalysts and auditions.

The right niche is finding us—not just random views.
Saves, shares, and follows are coming from exactly who we built this for: adult dancers 18–45+, ex‑majors, studio kids who “aged out,” and people who never moved to LA/NYC (or went there/moved back home) that still miss performing.

Studios and local community pockets are curious, not cold.
Early conversations aren’t “what is this?” so much as “how does it work?” That question tells us the idea makes sense—we just have to keep explaining the details simply.

Our social media strategist is already building real relationships.
She’s talking to dancers, DJs, creatives, and planners like people, not metrics. The feedback she brought back this week was that our mission doesn’t sound out of touch—it sounds like relief.

On the founder’s side, Hollis’ biggest insight this week was personal: learning to let go. For years, CDA only existed in her head, on rough site drafts, and in late‑night documents with no one else touching them. This week, other humans started carrying it—talking about CDA in their own words, making connections she didn’t personally initiate, and proving that the idea holds up outside her brain.

That’s the win that matters most right now: not going viral, but watching the first wave of real people understand what CDA is trying to do and say, “I want in.”

Ride the Come Up With Us

If any part of this sounds like your story—a degree or years of training that didn’t magically turn into a career, a body that still wants to move, a heart that still wants a stage—this is your invitation to stay close while we build.

We’re in week one of our real team era. That means you’re seeing the messy middle: auditions opening, outreach starting, systems being built, and hard lessons along with the small wins.

Subscribe to this newsletter operation. Today? CDA’s got operators ready to move mountains.

Sage joined as our Gen Z Social Media Marketing & Outreach Strategist—the rising star who gets the pulse of younger creatives. She’s building our following, connecting with dancers and artistic minds who feel the call to perform, choreograph, earn—without the chaos of self-promotion. Her mission: amplify our voice so dancers hear us and clients find us.

Next came River, our Operations & Administrative Architect—a social media, web design, dance-teaching triple threat who lives in our industry. Sales target hunter. Mission-driven. Handles outreach, back-end ops, admin glue to ensure we close deals and honor both our talent and clients.

Finally, Scout—our Sales & Outreach Closer—joined with genuine passion for helping creatives land real gigs. A true believer in our mission.

The Philosophy: Your Job Becomes Our Focus

Here’s what we’re building: A world where artists aren’t also marketing consultants, salespeople, and life coaches. You focus on your craft—your movement, your energy, your artistry. We handle the boring stuff: sales, follow-ups, strategy, visibility.

Think LA “star-power” meets practical hustle. A dash of luck, aligned vision, and real support. That’s the mix. You get paid to dance. You get to earn in non-traditional roles. You escape the 9-5 trap—or use Social Catalysts gigs to supplement it while you actually love what you do.

What They’re Already Doing

Sage is architecting our May Social Catalysts “Calling All Virginia Adult Professional Dancers” launch—content, messaging, presence that speaks directly to you.

River’s locking down ops so we hit Q2 targets—pipeline management, client outreach, making sure every lead converts and every talent match feels right.

Scout is on the phones, speaking directly to planners and venues: “I’m ready to help you take your first real leap toward your next chapter in a dance career—one where you’re earning what you deserve, moving with purpose, and staying true to your creative soul. That’s not just a job; that’s your comeback.”

Why This Matters Now

We’re launching May 1st. Auditions open. Virginia dancers can apply directly via our site for SWVA Social Catalyst roster placement. No gatekeeping. No relocating to unaffordable cities. No settling into “starving artist” mythology.

This crew—Sage’s voice, River’s hustle, Scout’s conviction—they’re proof CDA isn’t another hollow agency. We’ve got people who get the artist struggle and are willing to work to change it.

What’s Next

May 1st, auditions live. Online submissions direct to our site.

Sage’s growing our reach so you hear us.

River’s closing client deals. Scout’s converting dancers.

We’re not perfect yet. We’re hungry.

Join the collective. Apply May 1st. [thecollectivedanceagency.com]

See you then.

Join the Collective! our social media strategist—a pulse-taker who gets the dance community’s fight for real opportunities. Hired our operations/community outreach strategist: a writer with deep artist empathy, nightlife insight, and doer energy. Website now pro-tuned—auditions page with video uploads, Social Catalysts bookings, seamless payments. These aren’t just hires; they’re the operators to scale CDA from vision to velocity.

The Lesson: Heart of the Artist, Shift in Society

Our outreach strategist nailed it:

“Millennials and Gen Z aren’t lazy—we’re wise to the economic traps sold as ‘the only path.’ Schools drilled ‘get serious, stable career; art’s a hobby if you have energy left.’ But social media, AI, influencers flipped the script. Stay-at-home moms monetize TikTok; ‘characters’ hype brands. Why not creatives? Social Catalysts already thrive in nightlife—let’s normalize it for dancers to earn joyfully, collectively.”

She sees the pain: Passions sidelined for “stability,” no roadmap post-competition/training hubs. Relocating to unaffordable cities? Not viable. Our social strategist vibes the same:

“Dance comp mindset bred competition, but we crave escape—a positive ecosystem unseen before. CDA builds stages for every career phase: seen, heard, thriving.”

Social Catalysts embody this. Not shy hype squads, but authentic connectors elevating weddings, DJ sets, venues. That “missing puzzle”: Fun where non-dancers join in. Normalize it—like bar promoters or event hosts—and artists reclaim lives: connect, perform, earn collectively.

Why This Matters Now

Society’s shifting. Influencers prove “normal” is outdated. Dancers deserve infrastructure: No gatekeeping, no settling. CDA flips competitive to collaborative, stressful to joyful. A safe space to release, community-build, inspire. while getting paid, then this is for you.

This first Southwest Virginia Social Catalyst audition is designed for adults who have trained in dance before and can show some kind of track record—headshots, a résumé, or other social proof that you’ve spent real time in this craft.

What’s a Social Catalyst?

Social Catalysts are CDA‑trained performers who specialize in event energy.

They aren’t immediately cast out from an audition because of how they look, and they’re definitely not auditioning to dance “background” in someone else’s show.

Instead, Social Catalysts are the dancers who:

Get the crowd hype in a way that feels natural and respectful.

Are entertaining and interactive with the room.

Help bring the “flies on the wall” off the sidelines and onto the dance floor.

The goal is simple: create a vetted team of adults who know how to dance, connect, and safely support live events in Southwest Virginia.

Why this audition exists

Behind the scenes, CDA has been talking with local event businesses, DJs, and community leaders about what’s missing from the current event landscape in this region.

The message is clear:

There are adults in SWVA who still want to dance and perform.

There are events that need more interactive, human energy—not just a louder playlist.

CDA’s team is working to meet both needs at the same time. This audition is the first step toward building a Social Catalyst roster that is done right by dancers and by clients, rather than asking either side to compromise.

June 2026: the first SWVA Social Catalyst audition

The team is planning a 2.5‑hour audition in the New River Valley area in June 2026, with the goal of finalizing the first regional roster by June 30 (exact weekend date TBA).

What dancers can expect:

Location: a studio or auditorium space in the NRV / SWVA area (Radford, Blacksburg, or nearby Roanoke).

Length: approximately 2.5 hours.

Focus: improvisation, musicality, crowd awareness, and your ability to function as part of a team—more than tricks or competition‑style combos.

How the process will work

Apply for the audition
Dancers will complete a short application with:

Name and contact info

Headshot

Dance résumé or brief training history

Any links that help show how they move (optional)

Purchase the audition ticket
There will be a one‑time audition ticket (projected $35–$40).
This ticket is there to cover:

Renting a professional dance space for a few hours

The time it takes to organize, staff, and run the event

Administrative work required to turn this into a real, ongoing opportunity pipeline—not just a one‑off workshop

Arrive prepared to move and improvise
Dancers should:

Dress comfortably (something they can move and sweat in).

Be ready to improvise with other dancers; this roster is about supporting a team, not just solo moments.

Expect to be seen in small groups, not isolated under a spotlight for long stretches.

Inside the 2.5‑hour audition
The structure will likely include:

A group warm‑up, led by CDA plus invited local educators, to get everyone grounded and in their bodies.

A short intro combo to check timing, musicality, and how dancers pick up choreography.

A dedicated improvisation portion, including exercises that simulate what Social Catalysts do at events—moving through a room, engaging shy guests, reading the energy and responding in real time.

A small panel of local judges—teachers, studio owners, and creative directors who understand dance in this community—will help observe and offer insight during the session.

Selection & next steps
After the audition, CDA will invite a first wave of dancers to join the 2026 Southwest Virginia Social Catalyst roster.

Dancers who are not selected in this initial round, often due to limited slots rather than lack of ability, may be invited to stay on CDA’s radar for future opportunities as the roster expands.

The intention is to keep the door open, not slam it shut.

Background check & onboarding for those selected
Because Social Catalysts will be working directly at events and representing CDA, selected dancers will complete a background check through a third‑party provider (estimated at $35). This helps protect dancers, clients, and the communities these events serve. Once cleared, dancers will receive:

A welcome and expectations overview

Information on how gigs are communicated and booked

Details on rehearsals, call times, and communication standards so everyone knows what “professional” looks like inside CDA.

What CDA is building with you

CDA is working toward a regional ecosystem where:

Adult dancers can stay in Southwest Virginia and still access meaningful, paid performance work.

Event clients can book vetted, reliable Social Catalysts who are trained for crowd engagement, not just stage choreography.

The team knows many dancers are already interested in CDA’s mission. The responsibility now is on CDA to build the kind of structure that honors that interest and delivers value on both sides—dancer and client.

This first audition is a major milestone. Once the June roster is established, CDA will be able to answer local event inquiries with, “Yes, we have people,” instead of, “We’re still trying to find them.”

A gentle but real urgency

Because this is the first Southwest Virginia Social Catalyst roster, spots will be limited. The goal is to keep the group small enough to train well and to actually book, not just collect names on a list.

If the idea of:

Dancing with other adults,

Being part of a team,

And helping rooms come alive again

lights something up in you, it’s worth getting on the interest list now so you don’t miss the first audition window.

The team is excited to meet everyone who comes out, and they hope you’re ready to grow this with them—from the very first roster forward.

Thanks for reading. Building education and resources behind the scenes

Behind the scenes, CDA is dedicating time to researching, curating, and sharing resources around adult dance careers, creative income paths, and mindset—so supporters feel genuinely supported instead of overwhelmed.

The plan is to use the Substack, social channels, and future guides to translate dance‑world complexity into practical, non‑gatekept information that meets adult dancers where they actually are: working jobs, juggling family, and still wanting to perform.

This is the work that most people never see on a social feed, but it’s the backbone of what CDA wants to offer: not just inspiration, but infrastructure.

“Quiet commitments are often emails, notes, and saved posts no one else sees—but they’re the foundation of sustainable careers.”

2. Expanding reach (and openly seeking help)

At the same time, CDA is honest about a simple truth: if the right people don’t know the agency exists, they can’t benefit from any of this. Social media and marketing can’t just be something the founder squeezes in around everything else—they are essential tools for finding the adult dancers and clients this agency was built for.

Because of that, CDA is actively exploring collaboration with social media and marketing strategists, and is open about looking to expand its support team and resources in this area. The goal is to find a right‑fit partner (or partners) who can help increase brand awareness, grow the 2026 roster, and locate CDA’s community beyond one person’s immediate reach.

Readers who work in marketing for creative businesses—or who know someone who does—are invited to keep an eye out for upcoming calls for collaborators and to reach out if they feel aligned with the mission.

“If the right people don’t know we exist yet, that’s a marketing problem, not a mission problem.”
— Hollis, CDA founder

3. Mutual support without pressure

As CDA learns from each quiet pull‑back, it is trying to hold space both for the community’s hesitation and for reciprocal support. The agency understands that commitment can feel heavy when past experiences with institutions, studios, or employers have been disappointing.

So the invitation for April is intentionally low‑pressure:

Join the early roster interest list if the language around “adult dancers / real life / real gigs” feels like it was written for you.

Share the newsletter with another dancer or creative who might need to hear it.

Support the work through a tip or future member contribution when and if it feels right.

No one is shamed for being scared to commit. Instead, CDA positions itself as a place where that fear is expected, understood, and gently resourced.

For now, CDA is reading every delayed reply and every ghosted intake form as a signal, not a failure. It means the people they are speaking to have not often been met with this kind of support. April is for earning that trust—one quiet commitment at a time.

A quiet preview of what’s next

April’s theme of quiet commitments will start showing up in concrete ways next week. CDA will be sharing more details about the first Southwest Virginia Social Catalyst audition—a 2.5‑hour, adult‑centered session planned for June in the New River Valley, designed to build the 2026 regional roster.

If phrases like “adult dancers, real life, real gigs” and “event energy, not just choreography” have been landing for you, you’ll want to catch that update.

Stay close to the action as a quiet committer and turn that commitment into real action by:

– Subscribe to this Substack so you don’t miss future updates on the 2026 roster and audition dates.

– Add your name to the early‑interest list when the link goes live this month, if you feel pulled toward CDA’s Social Catalyst work.

Either one counts as a quiet commitment—and both help CDA see where the next chapter needs to grow.

Thanks for reading. On one side was corporate healthcare; on the other, a local teaching opportunity. Both revealed the same pattern: high effort, low support, and no real path forward.

After months of internal interviews for a promotion that promised a 20,000 dollar salary increase, they were met with silence. No clear yes, no clear no, just a slow fade. When annual review time arrived, the outcome was a standard 3 percent merit increase. In practice, that meant 66 cents more an hour in exchange for a year of over-performance and emotional labor.

“On paper, it looked like growth. In my bank account and my day‑to‑day reality, nothing meaningful had changed.”

At the same time, their final week teaching adult classes at a local YMCA fell apart. They had invested personal time and money into creating Canva flyers, posting on social media, and spreading the word. Later, they found out the brochures were being thrown away. When they arrived at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday to teach, the doors were locked. No class, no communication.

From CDA’s perspective, both moments are symptoms of the same problem: systems that depend on talent to show up fully—but fail to build infrastructure that truly supports them.

What it revealed about the dance landscape

At CDA, we hear versions of this story often. Corporate environments and local venues can look very different, but they share familiar patterns: opaque decisions, inconsistent support, and an assumption that dedicated people will simply “figure it out.”

For adult dancers and creatives, that often translates into:

Teaching or performing in spaces that don’t handle marketing or logistics reliably.

Carrying all of the outreach work alone—designing flyers, posting, following up—on top of full‑time jobs.

Interpreting systemic breakdowns (like locked doors and empty studios) as personal failure.

“Showing up to a locked door hurt, but it mostly confirmed what I already felt—this system was never designed with adult dancers in mind.”

The adult dance market has been overlooked for decades. Most infrastructure is built around youth programs, competition circuits, or elite professionals in major cities. Adult creatives who are working jobs, raising families, or living outside major markets are left to patch everything together by themselves.

How CDA is responding

This case study aligns with why The Collective Dance Agency exists in the first place. CDA is being built as infrastructure, not just inspiration—a place where adult dancers, choreographers, and creative performers can plug into clear systems instead of carrying everything alone.

On the back end, CDA is:

Using AI‑supported systems to handle research, operations, and content drafting, so human time can stay focused on dancers, clients, and creative direction.

Integrating dedicated operations and sales support to manage inquiries, bookings, and follow‑up in a consistent way.

Designing Social Catalyst and membership pathways that acknowledge real constraints—9–5 jobs, family responsibilities, and geography—while still creating paid opportunities and community.

“The difference now is that I’m not just reacting to locked doors. I’m helping build a system where adult dancers know exactly where they belong and how to access support.”

For CDA, stories like this member’s aren’t just anecdotes; they’re data points. They shape how we design policies, set expectations with venues and clients, and advocate for better conditions for talent.

Lessons our team is taking from this case

From CDA’s vantage point, three lessons stand out:

Gatekeeping and stagnation are systemic, not personal. Whether it’s a corporate promotion that quietly disappears or a venue that fails to communicate, the issue is often structural. This reinforces our belief that adults in creative fields need new infrastructure—not more self‑blame.

“Failure” moments are design inputs. The locked YMCA door is a painful story, but it’s also a clear signal about what CDA must protect members from: unclear marketing expectations, unstable support, and last‑minute surprises. We design our offers and agreements so dancers aren’t left holding the entire risk.

The right team changes the ceiling. Moving from a solo hustle to a founder‑led agency with operations and sales support turns isolated frustration into momentum. It shifts CDA from passion project territory into a professional, scalable agency model.

What’s next for CDA (and for members like this)

In response to stories like this, CDA’s next phase is focused on turning insight into tangible pathways for adult creatives and event partners.

Over the coming months, our priorities include:

Launching the beta / early‑entry phase of The Collective Dance Agency, giving adult dancers and creatives structured ways to engage as founding members.

Onboarding expanded operations and sales support so client bookings and talent coordination feel seamless—from first inquiry to final recap—on both sides.

Stepping up marketing and brand awareness, using Substack, socials, and targeted campaigns to reach the dancers, choreographers, planners, DJs, and venues who have been looking for something like CDA.

Continuing to build a non‑traditional agency experience where portfolios, community, and paid opportunities live in the same ecosystem instead of scattered across disconnected platforms.

“A 66‑cent raise and a locked door made it clear: waiting for existing systems to change is not a strategy. Building new ones is.”

For any adult creative who reads this and recognizes themselves in the story, CDA is being built with you in mind—so that your next chapter doesn’t depend on systems that were never designed for you in the first place.

Thanks for reading! doesn’t fit into traditional career boxes.

“I’m a member‑engagement professional by day and an agency founder by night and weekend. CDA has to work in the same constraints as the dancers we serve.”

— Hollis

Instead of pretending unlimited time and money exist, CDA is being designed to function like a full agency from the start, with systems that future team members can step into.

Founder‑Led, System‑Backed

At this stage, CDA is founder‑led and supported by a small, tech‑forward team, alongside some powerful AI systems behind the scenes.

That looks like:

AI‑assisted research, planning, and content drafting, always edited by a human who knows the dance world.

Templates and workflows for member onboarding, client requests, and Social Catalyst bookings that can later be handed to humans as the team grows.

A content engine (Instagram, Substack, TikTok, YouTube, later podcast) with clear jobs: recruit dancers, educate planners/DJs, and explain Social Catalysts.

This isn’t “just me talking to a chatbot.” It’s an intentional choice to treat tools as part of our team so that human time can stay focused on developing relationships, curation, and creative direction.

Why This Matters for Members and Clients

For adult dancers and creatives, CDA’s structure means:

Communication won’t vanish if one person is busy; processes are documented and repeatable.

Offers are built with realistic schedules in mind.

Growth over time (more cities, more tiers) is part of the plan, not an afterthought.

For clients and partners, it means:

A consistent, professional experience even while the agency is young.

Clear next steps—from inquiry to deposit to event recap.

Confidence that the same quality of talent and communication can be delivered again and again.

“My goal is that, years from now, people are surprised to learn how small we were when we started. about building with the people who see the vision before it’s fully realized.

Over the next season, CDA will be:

Refining its membership tiers based on real questions and needs from dancers.

Testing Social Catalyst packages with a handful of planners, DJs, and venues.

Sharing honest updates through Substack and future podcast episodes so the community can see how the agency evolves in real time.

If you’ve ever wished someone would build a structure that respects both your creative life and your adult moments.

“We’re not sending dancers to ‘fill space.’ We’re sending professionals who know when to spark, when to soften, and when to day. What we weren’t given was a roadmap for the messy middle—for the years when you’re juggling a job, bills, family, and still wanting to call yourself an artist.

“You’re not behind; you were just never given a system that fit your real life.” — Hollis Bourne‑Frye

The Collective Dance Agency (CDA) exists because that gap is real. It’s a talent‑first, ethics‑led dance agency built for adult dancers, choreographers, and creative performers who still want opportunities in the middle of adult life—not just in a narrow window of their early twenties.

The Problem: No Roadmap After the Studio

Dancers are trained to perform, not to build careers. We graduate or age out of certain programs knowing how to hit counts and tell stories with our bodies, but not how to:

Find work that fits alongside a full‑time job.

Price our time, talent, and emotional labor.

Build a portfolio that speaks to clients outside the dance world.

Stay connected to a community when we’re no longer in class five nights a week.

The result is a pattern many of us recognize: a few years of hustling, then burnout, then a quiet grief that looks like “walking away” from dance.

“It’s not that people stop loving dance. It’s that they run out of systems that let them stay.” — Hollis

What CDA Is Actually Building

The Collective Dance Agency is designed to be more than a social feed or occasional workshop. At its core, CDA is an infrastructure project.

For talent:

Membership options for adult dancers, choreographers, and creative performers.

Portfolio and visibility support tailored to real‑world schedules.

Social Catalyst opportunities—paid event‑energy roles at weddings, parties, and live experiences.

For clients:

A vetted roster of performers who understand both artistry and professionalism.

Clear processes for booking, communication, and payment.

Event‑ready concepts that go beyond “background entertainment.”

Unlike traditional agencies, CDA’s starting point is adult life as it is—not as we wish it were. This means systems that can work around a 9–5, remote work, caregiving responsibilities, or even in smaller markets like Southwest Virginia.

Why You’re Seeing More from CDA Now

If you’ve followed since last fall, you might have noticed a quiet period online. That was intentional. After sharing the early vision, CDA went heads‑down to define offers, test ideas with dancers and local partners, and map the first year of operations.

“The internet rewards constant noise. CDA has to reward real outcomes. Sometimes that means going quiet while we build.” — Hollis

This March, CDA is stepping back into the public conversation with more clarity: who we serve, what we’re building, and how adult creatives and event partners can be part of it from the beginning.

An Invitation to Adult Creatives

If you’re an adult dancer, choreographer, or creative performer who still wants to be in the room—even if your résumé includes call centers, corporate jobs, kids, and relocations—you’re exactly who CDA is for.

Over the coming months, CDA will share:

Articles that translate industry fog into clear options for your next steps.

Updates on membership tiers and what they unlock.

Behind‑the‑scenes notes as Social Catalyst offers roll out to weddings and events.

“Your creative life didn’t end when your last recital or contract did. It just needs a different kind of support.” — Hollis

Subscribe, stay curious, and, if you’re ready, raise your hand as an early member or collaborator. We’re designing the infrastructure I wish adult creatives already had.” — Hollis

Those early months revealed something important: there is no shortage of talent or need. Adult dancers and creatives want better options than “teach a little, perform when you can, and hope something bigger appears.” Local businesses want experiences that feel more intentional than a standard DJ set or one‑off event. What’s missing is a structure that brings them together in a way that feels fair, repeatable, and modern.

What We’ve Been Quietly Building

Behind the scenes, CDA has been mapping out that structure.

Drafting the first version of our membership model for adult dancers, choreographers, and creative performers.

Defining our Social Catalysts concept—high‑energy performers trained not just to dance, but to read a room, elevate an event, and protect their own boundaries in the process.

Outlining how collaborations with local businesses, wedding vendors, DJs, and venues can move from “nice idea” to repeatable offers that respect everyone’s time and budget.

“Every system we build has to work for both sides: the artist and the client. If one side loses, the ecosystem breaks.” — Hollis

Why Things Might Look Quiet (On Purpose)

From the outside, it can feel like not much is happening when an agency isn’t posting constantly. Internally, the opposite is true. Late 2025 has been a season of foundation‑building: testing ideas, refining offers, and building the back‑end systems that will support early members and clients.

Rather than rush to sell a half‑formed product, CDA is choosing the slower path—designing a Year 1 that:

Fits the reality of adult life (jobs, families, geography),

Generates real opportunities, not just “exposure,” and

Can scale sustainably as more dancers and partners come on board.

“I’d rather launch a smaller, solid first chapter than overpromise and underdeliver. CDA is here to last.” — Hollis

An Early Invitation

As this foundational work continues, CDA is opening the door for a small group of early members and collaborators who want to grow alongside the build.

If you’re:

An adult dancer or creative who still wants to perform, teach, or build a creative business without starting from scratch every time.

A local business, wedding professional, DJ, or venue owner interested in adding thoughtful, dance‑driven experiences to what you already offer.

You’re exactly who this chapter is for.

Over the next few months, CDA will be:

Finalizing membership options designed for different stages of an adult creative career.

Piloting Social Catalyst offerings at select events.

Sharing transparent updates on what’s working, what’s changing, and how early members are shaping the agency’s direction.

“This isn’t just my agency; it’s a blueprint we’re building with the people who join us early.” — Hollis

If you’ve been watching quietly from the sidelines, now is a good time to step a little closer—subscribe, reach out, or simply stay tuned for what comes next. The visible work will slow for a season while the foundations are poured, but that’s exactly what will make future opportunities more real when they appear.

Thanks for reading The Collective Dance Agency! I’m here to prove that you can be a powerhouse who builds businesses, raises families, and still shows up on the dance floor—with purpose and fire.

Do you crave that sense of purpose and performance?

LA taught me that the industry may be cutthroat, but it’s also beautifully collaborative. I want to reignite that spirit here: a community where artists, choreographers, and creatives unite to build something bigger than themselves.

Because when we move together, we create magic.

✨ And yes… guess who’s back?!

Masterclasses are coming soon—because it’s time to bring the artistry home again.

Thanks for reading The Collective Dance Agency! I wanted to build the kind of ecosystem I wish existed when I was starting out.” — Hollis Bourne‑Frye

For years, Hollis watched brilliant dancers and passionate small‑business owners struggle in parallel. Studios wanted more engagement from their communities. Breweries and venues wanted fresher experiences. Dancers wanted stage time, visibility, and work that actually paid.

The Collective Dance Agency (CDA) was created to bring those worlds into the same room. It’s a bridge between local businesses that crave thoughtful programming and emerging creative talent that deserves better infrastructure than “do it all yourself.”

The Vision: Collaboration as Currency

CDA is designed around a simple question: What if collaboration itself became the currency that grows both creatives and businesses?

Imagine:

A local brewery hosting an evening of live performance where guests get both craft beer and curated choreography.

A vineyard transforming into a sunset stage for contemporary dance and acoustic sets.

A studio or coworking space partnering with CDA to launch a community class series, social media campaign, or short dance film that tells their story.

Each collaboration is built to be mutually beneficial. Businesses gain authentic experiences, content, and community engagement. Dancers and creatives gain paid opportunities, portfolio material, and real‑world experience working with brands and audiences—not just other dancers.

“Art and business aren’t opposites. When they’re done well, they make each other more human.” — Hollis

Why This Matters (Especially for Adult Creatives)

Art and entrepreneurship are often framed as incompatible: one is passion, the other is profit. In reality, most adult creatives are already living at that intersection—working day jobs, freelancing on the side, and trying to keep their artistry alive in the margins.

Hollis’s background reflects that duality. Years of training and performance taught her to see the world through rhythm, storytelling, and collaboration. More than a decade in business, operations, and management taught her how to turn ideas into structured systems that actually work.

The Collective Dance Agency merges both sides of that identity:

🎭 The artist who values expression, story, and community.

💼 The strategist who cares about scalability, fair pay, and long‑term impact.

“CDA is for the dancers who still have something to say—and for the businesses that are brave enough to say it with them.” — Hollis

This is the kind of creative ecosystem I wish existed when I was first starting out—a space where dancers could network, perform, and get paid while also learning how to navigate business partnerships and branding in the digital age.

The Bigger Picture: From Local Pilots to a New Kind of Creative Economy

CDA’s first chapter lives in and around Southwest Virginia, but the vision isn’t small. The agency is testing what it means to build a working arts infrastructure in places that don’t always see themselves as “arts hubs.”

In time, The Collective will expand into producing short films, dance showcases, and branded events that highlight both our dancers and the businesses who open their doors to us. Every partnership will feed back into the local economy, proving that when art and business collaborate, everyone wins.

That looks like:

Partnering with local businesses that want to host events, workshops, or performances that feel intentional—not like afterthought entertainment.

Giving adult dancers and creatives a way to earn, practice, and grow without having to relocate to a major market just to be taken seriously.

Documenting what works (and what doesn’t) so the model can travel to other communities over time.

“There are so many towns full of talent and so few systems to support them. CDA is my way of saying, ‘We don’t have to wait on someone else to build this.’” — Hollis

Over time, CDA plans to expand into short films, showcases, branded events, and Social Catalyst teams—high‑energy performers who can transform weddings, DJ sets, and live experiences. But even as the offerings grow, the core stays the same: collaboration as the engine, not an afterthought.

An Invitation to Collaborate

If you’re a local business owner, creative, or adult dancer who sees yourself somewhere in this story, CDA was built with you in mind.

Businesses can explore partnerships that go beyond sponsorship logos and into real, memorable experiences.

Dancers and creatives can tap into an emerging network that values both their artistry and their time.

“Let’s stop treating creative work as a favor and start treating it as a partnership.” — Hollis

The Collective Dance Agency is still in its early chapters, but the direction is clear: a more connected, more ethical, and more sustainable way for art and business to grow together.

<p class="button-wrapper" 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance & Choreography, a program that taught her how to turn movement into meaning and work inside high‑pressure creative systems.

After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to train and perform at studios such as Millennium Dance Complex, Edge PAC, Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio, and Stomping Ground LA, and to dance with companies including LA Unbound and Life In Motion Dance Company. Those rehearsals, performances, and intensives gave her a front‑row seat to how talent, opportunity, and access really work.

Offstage, Hollis built a parallel career across hospitality, retail, and administrative roles—moving from the front desk to leadership positions and supporting local businesses with operations, marketing, and customer experience. That work revealed how much strategy, systems, and communication determine whether creative work can actually be sustainable.

The Collective Dance Agency sits at the intersection of those experiences. CDA is the result of a dancer who understands the industry from the inside and a strategist who knows how to design infrastructure that protects artists instead of burning them out.

Every skill I built in dance — discipline, timing, collaboration, adaptability — was preparing me for leadership.

💻 Redefining “Performance” in the Remote World

When the pandemic hit, Hollis transitioned into remote roles in hospitality and call centers, and later into Member Engagement within the healthcare industry, where she has spent several years building, leading, and mentoring teams from behind a screen.

In total, she has held more than twenty roles across entry‑level, management, and leadership. Each position offered a different lens on how people are supported, how systems scale, and how culture is shaped inside an organization.

Over time, she realized she no longer wanted only to participate in these systems; she wanted to design better ones. The same instincts she once used to direct a piece or set choreography now inform how she approaches processes, teams, and member experiences. That mindset underpins CDA, where every dancer, client, and collaborator is treated like part of a cast that deserves clear direction, structure, and care.

🌐 Bridging Creativity and Commerce

The Collective Dance Agency was created at the intersection of Hollis’s creative and corporate worlds. On one side are artists and adult dancers who need support, strategy, and real paid opportunities beyond the traditional agency model. On the other are businesses and events eager for intentional creative energy, especially as work and community have shifted between online and in‑person spaces.

CDA’s role is to bridge that gap. The agency helps creatives build real‑world experience and visibility, while giving local and regional businesses access to vetted talent and Social Catalysts who can elevate their audiences’ experiences. At CDA, creativity and commerce are designed to work together so that both sides grow.

I realized I didn’t just want to work in systems — I wanted to design them.

🧠 The Mission

The Collective Dance Agency is positioned as both a movement and an operating system for adult creatives.

It empowers young and emerging professionals to build real‑world experience and sustainable careers through intentional partnerships and performance opportunities.

It supports local and regional businesses that want to grow with authenticity, using thoughtfully curated creative talent instead of generic entertainment.

It bridges creative and corporate mindsets, proving that artistry, strategy, and financial stability can coexist.

💌 A Note to My Fellow Dreamers

Hollis knows many résumés look like mosaics of roles, industries, and “detours.” From her perspective, that isn’t a flaw—it’s range. Every season has been giving creatives information. Every role, rehearsal, and relocation has added depth to their stories.

She is currently a member‑engagement professional by day and the founder of The Collective Dance Agency by night and weekend, so CDA is intentionally designed for people balancing a 9–5 with a creative calling. The agency’s systems are built to work in real life, not in a fantasy of unlimited time and resources.

At CDA, the core belief is simple: your journey, your skills, and your dreams deserve a permanent seat at the table.

Would you like a shorter “press‑bio” version of this (3–4 sentences) that you can also reuse on LinkedIn and your main website?

👉 Join The Collective

Thanks for reading The Collective Agency!
